Handmade Italian Full-Grain Leather Slip Dog Collar with Brass Hardware

Crafted for dog owners who appreciate traditional materials and understated design, this Handmade Italian Full-Grain Leather Slip Collar combines premium leather craftsmanship with classic brass hardware.

Highlights

  • Each collar is handcrafted from Italian full-grain leather, preserving the natural character and strength of the hide while developing a richer patina with regular use.
  • Smooth burnished edges provide a cleaner, more finished feel around the neck.
  • The slip-style construction uses solid brass rings to create a simple, functional adjustment system without bulky plastic buckles.
  • Vintage-inspired metal detailing adds subtle character while maintaining the collar's clean, minimalist appearance.
  • Different hardware proportions are available to better suit dogs of different sizes, allowing smaller dogs to maintain a lighter overall feel while providing more substantial hardware for medium and larger breeds.
  • Designed for walks, controlled handling and owners who prefer traditional leather equipment, this collar brings together natural leather, warm brass tones and handcrafted detailing in a distinctly classic style. Important: Because this is a slip collar, choose a size large enough to pass comfortably over your dog's head while still fitting appropriately around the neck when worn. Slip collars should only be used under direct supervision and should not be left on an unattended dog.

Fit & use note:

Slip collars are for trained handling contexts—not a substitute for a walking harness on everyday pulls. Fit with care and supervision.

How to Use a Slip Collar

A slip collar is designed to loosen when the leash is relaxed and tighten when tension is applied. Choosing the correct size before purchase and using the collar properly are important for comfortable, controlled use.

Choosing the Right Size Before Purchase

Before selecting a size, use a soft measuring tape to measure both your dog's head circumference and neck circumference.

  1. Measure the Head Circumference

Measure around the widest part of your dog's head, typically around the ears and under the jaw. The selected collar size must be large enough to pass comfortably over this area.

  2. Measure the Neck Circumference

Measure around the neck where the collar naturally sits. Keep the measuring tape comfortably snug, not too tight.

  3. Select a Size from the Size Chart

Compare both measurements with the size chart and identify the appropriate collar size. The collar must be large enough to pass comfortably over your dog's head while still fitting appropriately around the neck.

  4. Simulate the Fit Before Ordering

Before placing your order, use the measuring tape to simulate the selected collar size. Form the tape into a loop at the selected collar size and gently test whether the loop passes comfortably over the widest part of your dog's head.

This simple check helps confirm that the selected size can be put on and removed comfortably before you purchase the collar.

If your dog falls between two sizes, choose the larger size while making sure it fits appropriately around the neck.

Putting It On

Form the slip collar into a loose loop and gently guide it over your dog's head. Once in place, make sure it sits comfortably around the neck and slides freely through the ring.

Attach the leash to the designated ring and check that the collar tightens smoothly when gentle tension is applied and loosens promptly when the leash becomes relaxed.

During Use

Use calm, controlled leash handling and avoid prolonged or continuous tension. The collar should tighten only when tension is applied and return to a relaxed position when the leash becomes loose.

Make sure the collar continues to move freely through the ring and never remains continuously tight around your dog's neck.

Safety Note

Slip collars are intended for supervised walking and handling only. Do not leave a slip collar on an unattended dog.

Do not use a slip collar for tie-outs or tethering, and never attach your dog to a fixed object using the collar.

Regularly inspect the leather, chain, rings, stitching, rivets, and other hardware for signs of wear or damage. Discontinue use if any component is damaged.

Aim for about two fingers between the collar and the neck. See collar fit tips and the Size Guide.

For walking load, clip to a harness. Keep the collar for ID tags.

Many dogs wear a light ID collar daily—check skin, fur, and fit regularly. Read long-term collar wear risks.

Use with training knowledge and supervision. For everyday pulling, prefer a fitted walking harness.

Brass ages warm with leather; 304 stainless stays cleaner in wet or salty weather. Compare both in Brass vs Stainless.
